About

The Hats of the Hudson Valley bundle is based directly on the textured, mosaic + slipped stitch patterns created for the Blue Mountains of the North sweater. The only difference is… the hats are worked with slightly different rules + reimagined charts, creating unique textures from what was found in the sweater!
There’s no boredom in these hats—the stitch patterns stay fresh and will undoubtedly spark your own creativity in developing even more ‘versions’ of the hats as well! (I can’t wait to see yours.)
You can knit several hats with your leftover yarn from the BMOTN sweater (I made 5 hats and a cowl)! Or, dive into your personal stash and use your worsted weight leftovers to make hats with.

Yarn

O Wool graciously provided the yarn support for the BMOTN sweater (as well as all patterns in the Hudson Valley Collection). Please check out and consider using this yarn… it is incredible! View the full range of O Wool Local colors here. Colors Used in Sample: River Oat, Ganoga, Cresheim, Bluebell, Wissahickon, Wood Fern

Hat Bundle

Hat bundle includes 4 distinct hats:

  1. Mountain Plateau Hat (includes 3 unique versions; each version, complete with written + charted instructions)
  2. Mountain Mosaic Hat
  3. Twisted Mountains Hat
  4. Twisted Rib Mountain Hat

Overview

• Each of the hats in this pattern bundle are knit in the round.
• The pattern is written for worsted weight yarn. O wool Local very much knits like a heavy worsted, which is why there is a 4.5 st/in(cm) gauge on size US 8 + 9 needles.
• There are hats that use mosaic + slip stitch knitting. Two of the hats uses twisted stitches.
• Charts are used in the knitting of the patterns. The ability to read charts OR the willingness to LEARN HOW to read charts is a must. However, written directions are also included, as well as schematics.
• Please read over the entire notes + pattern before starting.
• Swatch, swatch, swatch! These are not hats in stockinette. They will work up differently as you knit + purl. Take the time to knit up some swatches with the yarn you are using.
• You may need to alter the size needles to obtain the gauge / to make the size you want. Conversely, you may need to knit one size down/up.

Yardage

Each hat was created using yarn skein leftovers from the Blue Mountains of the North sweater. From 6 skeins of yarn in these colors (River Oat, Ganoga, Cresheim, Bluebell, Wissahickon, Wood Fern), I made 7 hat samples in sizes 4 and 5 (and I still have enough yarn to make one more hat). Each hat will use between 150-250 yds of yarn, depending on the size.

Accessibility

This pattern (as well as each of the patterns in the Hudson Valley Collection) is completely accessible; meaning, it was created with clear + consistent formatting to be read electronically. Knitting patterns are, without question, educational documents and as such, they should be easy to navigate, comprehend and offer compatibility across devices making the document usable for ALL knitters, including those who rely on screen reading technology.
