Hauch is a top down cropped length raglan cardigan,
perfect to wear over a summer dress or as a
lightweight layer to take the chill off a gray winter
day at the office.
Worked in one piece from the neck edge to the armholes,
then the sleeve stitches are set aside for the
sleeves to be worked in the round later. The button
band is worked along with the sweater body and
the neck facing is added at the end, for a smooth
finish.
Using 2 colors in subtle stripes lets you downplay
the vibrancy or turn the colors up a notch, whatever
you prefer and the loose relaxed gauge makes
sure that the cardigan stays airy and lightweight
and works up in no time. Perfect to use up those
odd skeins of sock yarn you couldn’t resist or perhaps
bust into that bin where you’ve been keeping
all the pretty sockyarn leftovers.
Hauch, is a German word, and I chose this because
the cardigan is just that ‘hauchfein’; ‘delicate as a
breath’ would be the closest translation.
Hauch is a gentle breath, like what you’d use to fog
up the window glass, and so is this cardigan, like a
gentle, lightweight protective cloak.
