Description
The Hayon Sweater is a semi-fitted design featuring a combination of alternating rib and cable patterns. It is constructed with set-in sleeves and fully fashioned shoulders.

The sweater is worked top-down and begins with the back yoke. Stitches are then picked up along the shoulder line to form the left and right front yokes. Once the yokes are complete, the back and front are joined, and the body is worked in the round. The hem is finished with 1x1 ribbing. The sleeves are created by picking up sts along the armholes, with the sleeve cap shaped using German short rows. A 1x1 ribbed collar is worked by picking up sts along the neckline.

The body and sleeves alternate between stockinette stitch, 2x2 rib, and cable patterns. When transitioning between these patterns, increases and decreases are incorporated to account for the differences in gauge. Note that the 2x2 ribbing naturally pulls in slightly, even with gauge adjustments, so proper blocking is essential to achieve the correct measurements and a clean finish.

Suggested Yarn
450 (500) 500 (550) 550 (600) 650 gr of BC Garn Loch Lomond GOTS (100% wool; 150 meters / 164 yards per 50 g), sample shown in the colorway 05 - Graphite

If substituting yarn, I recommend choosing a woolen-spun, 2-ply tweed yarn in DK weight. A woolen-spun yarn will create a light, breathable fabric with a soft halo, while the tweed texture will add depth and visual interest to the sweater.

Avoid yarns with a dense or tightly spun structure, as they may alter the intended drape and feel of the garment.

Needles

  • 3 mm / US 2.5 circular needles with a 40 cm / 16 inch cable for the neck ribbing
  • 3 mm / US 2.5 DPNs or circular needles with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for the cuffs
  • 3 mm / US 2.5 circular needles with at least an 80 cm / 32 inch cable for the hem
  • 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needles with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for the sleeves (or a long cable when using magic loop)
  • 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needles with at least an 80 cm / 32 inch cable for the body

Gauge
20 sts and 27 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles, after blocking
