This pattern came about because I had in my stash seven different single skeins of mohair yarn, all in different colors. I wanted to use them together to make a garment, something that evoked the look of a classic fair isle sweater, but I also wanted something that would drape that touchably soft mohair around my neck. So instead of sleeves, I gave my sweater a cape collar that can be pulled up as a hood or wrapped as a scarf. I was stash busting, and ran out a few colors partway, so if you follow the pattern yours may look a little different from the model. The vest is worked from the neck edge down, then you rejoin the yarn to work the cape from the neck up.

Size: Made to fit. Pattern is written to fit a size 30”-34” bust and is about 12” long, but instructions are included at the end of the pattern for customizing your garment to you and your stitching gauge. Anywhere in the pattern that has ( )#, is a place for your to put your own customized value in.

Materials: 7 colors of Bergere Angel 50 or ~1200-1400 yds fingering weight mohair yarn, G (4.25mm) hook
--If using multiple colors, change yarns every row throughout for the striped fair isle-esque look.

Gauge: 20 sts = 5”

Techniques Used: (Abbreviations and instructions are listed at the end of the pattern.)

The yarns I started with were: two partial balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze (dark blue, and lavender), two full skeins of Bergere Angel 50 (grey and green), one full skein of Bergere Pure Douceur (turqouise), one partial skein of Sirdar Nocturne (pale blue), and one full skein of Berroco Julid (navy blue). I used all seven for the body of the vest, but ran out of the Sirdar and Berroco before I got to the cape. I think it worked out better that way, since those two yarns were a bit heavier. My vest has a bit more heft, but the cape is still very lightweight. This is a great garment for busting a stash of mix matched yarns, but I think the cape part at least is best with the lightweight stuff like the Angel 50 or the Kidsilk Haze.
