This pattern takes it’s cues from the classic newsboy cap, but with a slouchier fit and a two color pattern of garter stitch stripes and slipped stitches. This pattern is knit from the bottom up, starting flat for the brim, then joining in the round at the band.

To get a different size cap you can simply adjust the size of needles and/or yarn used. The whole pattern is given in terms of rows instead of inches, so that a change of gauge will give you an even change in size. The model pictured used DK weight yarn. Another way to achieve different sizes is to cast on more or fewer stitches in even multiples of 6 (for example 34 or 40 for a smaller cap, and 52 for a larger one) so long as the second cast on (after closing the brim) is also adjusted by a multiple of 6 (38 or 44 sts for a smaller cap, 56 sts for larger) the rest of the pattern will still work out.
