Hearts and (more) Flowers - another perfect match!

This pattern is a continuation of the Heart in Bloom Motif (available in my Ravelry store here).
You need the Heart pattern to complete this square.

This design came about when I was playing around with a small heart pattern I found.
I wanted to make it bigger so I could use it to make some bunting and I thought a flower in the centre would look cute. It was quickly suggested to me that it would be even better if it was squared up, then you could use it for a blanket, bag or any other amazing project you can make using granny squares.
And so I came up with an idea and here is the result - the Heart in Bloom Square with lovely flowers surrounding the Heart in Bloom Motif and finished with a matching border.

I used 9 squares to create a super sweet baby blanket (see photos above) and the pattern also includes the instructions for both the join and the ruffle border so you can make the blanket too.

Level: Intermediate
The pattern uses a variety of techniques, including clusters and taller stitches - though tutorial links and heaps of photos make it accessible for confident crocheters who are happy concentrating a bit more on a pattern and can follow written instructions.

Yarn: Approx. 50 meters (54 yards) per square (including heart), 30 meters per square (not including heart) of 8ply (DK) yarn.
I’ve used Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply cotton for my blanket and a test square in Stylecraft Special DK.
You can use any yarn for this pattern with an appropriate hook though the finished size will vary.

Finished size:
17 cms (6 3/4 in) in BWM 8ply cotton
18cm (7 1/8 in) in Stylecraft Special DK

Included in this 23 page PDF pattern:

  • 62 tutorial photos
  • 12 other photos (including a comparison of size between the 2 yarns listed above).
  • American English crochet terms used throughout.
  • Crocheted in the round.
  • Partial charts to assist with join and border.
  • Clear concise written instructions with a layout designed to make it easy to follow and not lose your place.
  • Text only printable pages so you can print the pattern on just 1 or 2 pages reducing paper usage.
  • Landscape layout that looks good on a laptop, tablet or phone (simply zoom in on half the page on your smart phone to see the pattern clearly in portrait mode).
  • Links to 5 tutorials and full written instructions for all the clusters to help with the special stitches.

Note: this is a continuation of the Heart in Bloom Motif and you will need both patterns to complete the Heart in Bloom Square.
