This pattern is for a pair of mauči - Latvian knit & beaded cuffs, showcasing three beaded hearts on each cuff. The pattern is both written and charted and is suitable for beginner knitters as well as experienced knitters wishing to try out knitting with beads.

The cuffs are knit sideways in garter stitch with beads pre-threaded onto the yarn and inserted between stitches one by one. This beading technique does not require any special tools or skills, the only difficult part is getting the beads in the right order when stringing, so it’s a good idea to check yourself before you start knitting.

SIZE

The cuff size is 10.5 x 16 cm (unseamed) for an adult female wrist circumference of 14-16 cm.
Gauge 5x5cm = 16sts x 32 rows

For a girl’s wrist, a 10 x 14 cm cuff can be made with lace weight yarn and size 9-10 seed beads.
Gauge 5x5cm = 16.5sts x 37 rows

MATERIALS

About 25g of yarn in fingering weight and seed beads in size 9 in two colours. Use seed beads 2-3mm in diameter. In the modelled pair, Gutermann Size 9 seed beads were used. They are sold in 28g tubes and you will need about half of the tube. I used the pink mix selection #9902. The mix has different shades of silver lined pink beads (Colour a) and pearl beads (Colour b).

Colour a (three bead dash motif) 366 beads
Colour b (hearts) 402 beads

Other bead options are Czech Preciosa, Japanese Toho, Dyna Mites, Delicas.
