“It took me years to cut this piece of territory out of other men’s hands. It’s who I am and it’s my home. I’m not going anywhere. I won’t let any man take what’s mine.”

-Nandi, Heart of Gold, Firefly

Heart of Gold is a slipped-stitch colourwork pattern worked top-down with a reinforced heel flap and rounded toe. The design is created by working in single row stripes with two colours of yarn, and slipping certain stitches every other row. Heart of Gold is inspired by the character of Nandi in the Firefly episode “Heart of Gold”. The colours and design are meant to be warm, rich and ornamental, evoking Nandi’s feminine style and the inner fierceness she displays in fighting for her home and family.

Heart of Gold is fully charted in 4 sizes: XS, S, M, L with a cast on of 62, 66, 70 and 74 increasing to 66, 70, 74, and 78 stitches after the cuff. Larger sizes can be easily made by adding stitches to the sides.
