2 stitch markers
A strand of scrap yarn (approx. 20 cm in the same thickness as color A/B)
Suggested materials:
Color A: 50 g of Jensen Yarn fra Isager (50 g = 125 m)
Color B: 100 g Merino DK fra Hedgehog Fibres (100 g = 200 m)
About the design
The Heartcore Mittens are stranded colorwork mittens with a folded ribbed edge and a classic fit. The back of the hand is adorned with the symmetrical heart pattern known from the slipover of the same name (Heartcore Slipover), while the palm is knitted in 1x1 colorwork for optimal durability. The mittens are worked from the bottom up and can be worked in the round on DPNs or on longer circular needles using the Magic Loop technique. Along the way, a strand of contrasting yarn is knitted into the work so a thumb can be knitted on at the end (what’s known as an “afterthought thumb”).
Level and techniques
The level of the Heartcore Mittens is beginner/intermediate, and the pattern contains colorwork charts as well as written instructions.
The pattern includes the following techniques:
- Long tail cast-on (slingshot method)
- 2 x 2 rib stitch
- Stranded colorwork (2 colors) in the round
- Right- and left-leaning increases (m1R / m1L)
- Right- and left-leaning decreases (k2tog / ssk)
- Three-needle bind-off
- Picking up stitches for the thumb (for which the pattern includes links to several video tutorials)
