Hearthside at the Lake Cowl
This knitted cowl works up quickly and is written for an advanced beginner. The “Hearthside at the Lake Cowl” is written for worsted yarn weights. This pattern is worked from the bottom up and is knit in the round. You will need to be familiar with using circular knitting needles. This pattern would be amazing for using up scraps of worsted yarn changing each time the color switches, or with any color combination you can dream of. This introduces mild stranded colorwork as well as basic mosaic knitting for a fun woven appearance. The pattern is easy to memorize and changes every few rows always keeping things interesting and entertaining. It is also a very fast knit and is perfect for market prep. I needed a pattern to utilize my love for variegated yarns, but something practical to sell at my booths that is quick and entertaining to knit on repeat.
SKILL LEVEL:
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
SIZE:
Average adult - but provides number of stitches to decrease or increase size as needed for your desired measurements.
MATERIALS:
Yarn- Worsted (weight 4). Pattern is written for 3 colors - one variegated, and two totals/semi-solids/solids. You have the freedom to use whatever colors you want, use 3 solids, 3 tonals, or use up scraps every time that you change to a new color indicated in the pattern (would be a great stash buster!). I do not suggest however using more than one variegated or it will be too busy.
Needles- US 7. I suggest in pattern to cast on in a US 8. If you are an exceptionally tight or loose knitter to go up or down a needle size for your desired fabric density.
Other Supplies- Scissors, tapestry needle, Stitch Marker
STITCH KNOWLEDGE NEEDED
Knit, Purl, Knit through back loop, Cast on, Bind off in ribbing, Slip purl, carrying unused color up the inside, basic stranded color work/Knitting with 2 colors.
