Hearthstripe Fingerless Mitts
This pattern may look complex, but it is a fairly simple and enjoyable knit that makes a great winter accessory or cherished gift. Perfect for adding extra warmth while keeping fingers free for using your phone, typing, knitting, etc.
This pattern uses 1x1 rib, stockinette and slip stitches. The color work effect is achieved with alternating rounds of 2 different yarn colors and slip stitches that create the vertical lines (this is not stranded color work, you will only ever be working with one strand of yarn at a time).
Knitted from the bottom up by starting at the wrist cuff using 1x1 rib, then stockinette with slip stitches for the hand and thumb gusset portion, then 1x1 rib again for the top cuff, then finishing off with the thumb. The thumb increases and gussets are designed to integrate perfectly with the vertical slip stitch stripe details. The length of the wrist cuff may be easily modified to be shorter or longer according to your preference.
Knit with fingering weight yarn, this is a great project for minis, single skeins and leftovers since each pair of mitts uses only 21g/92yds of main color yarn and 6g/27yds of contrast color yarn. I love the soft feel and durability of the suggested yarn (Knit Picks Comfy Fingering cotton/acrylic yarn), but any fingering weight yarn or yarn that meets the pattern gauge may be used.
Currently this pattern is only offered in 1 size - womens medium - but feel free to adjust your needle size/guage or stitch count to increase or decrease the size. If you will be changing the stitch count, do so in increments of 4 stitches.
Full written instructions as well as materials list and all necessary information is included the downloadable PDF.
