“Then the heart of Eowyn changed, or else at last she understood it. And suddenly her winter passed, and the sun shone on her.”
-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

This design was inspired by Eowyn, a formidable woman who gives up her role as a fighting shieldmaiden, when she finds love. The snowflake and sun motifs on the hat represent how love warms Eowyn’s heart, as the sun turns a snowflake to liquid.

This project is worked from the band up. (I recommend an elastic cast-on for the band.) The remainder of the hat is knit in stranded colorwork. This hat fits on the head like a stocking cap. There is no slouch.
