Heart’s Desire Sweater
The Heart’s Desire Sweater is a loose fitting all-over cabled sweater with a dropped shoulder construction. A design that came to life as a result of a heart’s desire for the perfect cabled sweater.
CONSTRUCTION
The Heart’s Desire Sweater is worked top-down following charts. First, the back is worked flat and increased on either side to shape the shoulder slopes. Then, stitches are picked up and worked for both front shoulders while also shaping the neckline. The front and back pieces are joined at the underarms to knit the body in the round, finishing with a ribbed hem. Finally, stitches are picked up for the sleeves and the neck, which features a double-folded ribbed collar.

YARN REQUIREMENTS
The sweater is worked by holding a worsted and a lace weight yarn together for a thick, warm finish. For a lighter, airier version, pair a DK/sport weight with a lace weight yarn instead and adjust needle size to achieve the correct gauge.

GAUGE
25 sts x 29 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in cable pattern on 4 mm (US 6) needles, after blocking.
NOTE: Wilma is a tight knitter; if you tend to knit loosely, you may need to go down a needle size or adjust your yarn choice to match the specified gauge.
RECOMMENDED NEEDLE SIZES
Always use the needle size needed to achieve the correct gauge.
- 4 mm (US 6) circular needles / 60, 80 and/or 100 cm (16, 24, 32 and/or 40 inches) are used for the cable pattern
- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles / 60, 80 and/or 100 cm (16, 24, 32 and/or 40 inches) are used for ribbed details
NOTE: Magic loop method or double pointed needles (for both needle sizes) can be used for working smaller circumferences.
NOTIONS AND MATERIALS
- Cable needle (optional) to work cables
- Elastic thread - to insert into the double folded neckline to keep it in place and help it lay flat
