I’ve designed this heart so you can test out the overall technique before committing to a large project. If you enjoy this, I hope you’ll check out my Starshine C2C Blanket!

The corner-to-corner (C2C) crochet technique is a fun method of creating a square or rectangle. It is a favorite among crocheters for working afghans because rather than starting with hundreds of chains (and sometimes guessing at the correct number), you begin with only 6 chains. Each row is built as a series of linked blocks of double crochet. You’ll see progress right away as one block is added per row. Once your project reaches the target width, the decreasing corner is finished before you know it!

Because most afghans are rectangular rather than square, I wanted you to understand the process of making the piece longer without increasing the width. I’ve designed my sample as a rectangle, but I’ve added bonus instructions to make a square. Wouldn’t this be a great start to a cute pillow top or even one square of an afghan?

Once you’ve learned the technique, the possibilities are endless!
