Hi Folks!

Thanks for checking out the Heartstrings shawl! Although ‘heart strings’ are actual anatomical structures (fibrous tissues that connect valves and muscles in the heart), this shawl’s name takes a more literal approach. This large, symmetrical garment uses simple two-stitch cables and slipped stitches to create geometric hearts…on strings. The slightly tedious heart section is balanced by a nice, relaxing garter trim, making this shawl a good fit even for novice knitters looking to develop their skills. It makes a perfect, heavy winter shawl or a light and versatile autumn/spring scarf. I hope you like it!

Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample:
Dimensions: Adjustable, but the dimensions for the original sample are 76 in (193 cm) in length along top edge, 38 in (97 cm) deep
Yarn Requirements: 800+ yards of fingering-weight yarn, but again, this is adjustable! The original sample was knit with ~1300 yards
Needles: 3.25 mm (US 3) needles
Gauge: 22 sts by 44 rows = 4 in by 4 in (10 cm by 10 cm) in garter after blocking
Other Materials: stitch markers, cable needle (optional), tapestry needle (to weave in ends)

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Reach out! I’ll do my best to respond back as quickly as I can. If I don’t get back to you right away, please forgive me! I probably have my nose buried in a book for grad school.

Also, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Cathy from Yarn It! in Cobourg, Ontario for providing the yarn to make this shawl! To those of you in or visiting Ontario, make sure to check out her store. She’s always got such a great collection of yarn!
