Created using a 100% flax yarn, the earthy Heartwood Cardigan combines lace patterns for a delicate look. The lower edge of this cardigan is worked in three separate pieces, then the pieces are joined and the body is worked back and forth in one piece to the underarm.

Yarn Fibra Natura Flax (100% linen; 137 yd 125 m/1¾ oz 50 g): #12 Tarragon, 9 (11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17) skeins. Yarn distributed by Universal Yarn.

Needles Size 2½ (3 mm): 32” circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); stitch holders; 6 (6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7) ¾“ buttons; tapestry needle.

NOTES

  • The lower edge of this cardigan is worked in three separate pieces, then the pieces are joined and the body is worked back and forth in one piece to the underarm, where the work is divided for working the fronts and back separately. The sleeves are worked from the bottom up in the round, with the sleeve cap worked flat.

  • A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
