Using DK yarn produces a turtle approx 26cm wide and 9cm tall. Any yarn may be used as long as an appropriate hook is selected, although size and yarn quantities required will change.

Colour combinations both within and between hearts are unlimited, making this an ideal pattern for using up scrap yarn.

This pattern is solely formed by working heart shaped motifs, then joining them together in a prescribed layout. The crochet required is at an advanced beginner level, using ss, sc, hdc and dc in the round.

It is unfortunately not suited to join as you go techniques, and motifs are sewn together. Joining instructions are described and include a series of photos of every step.

To make the turtle shown, using DK yarn and a 3.0 mm hook, I used the following quantities:

Olive: 55m
Sage:145m
Fawn: 60m
Cream: 55m

Also required: Fibrefill for stuffing
3mm crochet hook
Safety eyes if required (I use 10mm for DK yarn)
Tapestry needle and scissors, and 10-12 small safety pins are strongly recommended.
