This cowl is a fast knit. The cables overlap to form the wonderful heat wave texture.

Since the yarn is thick and the cables are wide, I discovered some short-cuts you can use:

  • If you have interchangeable circular needles, you can substitue the size 10.5 U.S. needle on the left for a smaller one. I used a size 6 U.S. while I knit. The right-hand needle is the needle forming the stitches, so they will come out the right gauge. The smaller needle in the stitch gives the larger one more room to maneuver into the stitch. Plus, recovering stitches if you end up ripping back is easier with the smaller tip.
  • Instead of a cable needle you can use a spare circular needle that is a smaller sized needle, too. It makes it easy to pick up the stitched to be crossed. Plus, you can just pull those stitches onto the cord to let them wait until you are ready to knit them! It was great not having to struggle to keep my cable needle in place while I knit.
