‘Heave Ho!’ is based on traditional Fair Isle ‘keps’, or caps.

A stranded colourwork hat featuring traditional Fairisle motifs and a brim that’s folded in half along a purl row for extra warmth on the ears.

Directions are for two sizes, Large (to fit a 23” (58cm) head) & Medium (to fit a 21” (53cm) head). Large size has zero ease, Medium has slight negative ease.

Techniques used are provisional cast-on, knitting in the round, stranded colourwork, picking up stitches, decreases and the making of tassels.

In the example I knit, I used the following amounts of Wollmeise ‘Pure’, a fingering/sock weight yarn:

Sabrina - 183.8 meters (201.0 yards), 52 grams
Hamam - 142.0 meters (155.3 yards), 40 grams
Minze - 36.8 meters (40.2 yards), 10 grams
Zarte Knospe - 47.3 meters (51.8 yards), 13 grams
Sternschnuppe - 99.8 meters (109.1 yards), 28 grams
Good Morning - 84.1 meters (92.0 yards), 24 grams
Mörchen - 141.8 meters (155.0 yards), 40 grams
Grünfink - 87.5 meters (95.7 yards), 24 grams
