HEKLA – Icelandic Sweater with Volcanic Colorwork
Immerse your needles in the enchanting landscapes of Iceland with HEKLA, a sweater pattern inspired by the famous volcano of the same name. Its triangular colorwork yoke, blazing in shades of copper red, orange, and yellow, evokes molten lava and the striking peaks of Icelandic volcanoes.
A classic Icelandic-style sweater with a round neckline, knit seamlessly from the bottom up with a bold, geometric yoke.
Designed for intermediate knitters, it’s a perfect introduction to circular colorwork.
Make your HEKLA sweater truly your own by choosing your favorite colors—natural tones or fiery combinations—the eruption is yours to create!
Construction:
The sweater is knit in one piece, seamlessly in the round:
Start with the body, then knit the sleeves, and finally the yoke. Stitches at the underarms (where the sleeves meet the body) are held on waste yarn or spare needles. The remaining body and sleeve stitches are joined to knit the yoke, decreasing gradually toward the neckline.
The underarm stitches are then joined (ideally with grafting) to finish the piece neatly.
The pattern includes:
Detailed instructions in French, English, and Spanish for sizes XS to XL
A colorwork chart for the yoke
