I love applying newly learned skills and techniques into new designs. Helical or helix knitting is a shockingly simple method of knitting single-round stripes in the round without a noticeable jog where the colors switch! This light but cozy fingering weight cowl is perfect for five 10g micro skeins or those tiny leftovers in your stash for the contrast colors, while less than 50g is required for the main color. Practice a cool technique while using your favorite scraps or minis with this hard-to-put-down pattern!

In this fingering weight cowl pattern, you’ll be knitting single-round, jogless stripes using the helical or helix knitting technique, switching out your contrast colors to create a fade. Line up your skeins or leftovers and work from dark to light for results most similar to the sample. Remember, your cowl can also be worn upside down for a different look!

Gauge is not critical for this pattern. If you’re a super tight knitter go up a needle size, if you’re a super loose knitter go down a size.

Choose leftovers/skeins with at least 50g MC and 10g each of 5 CCs. While the sample and most tester projects came in under that, some did use more yarn.

The pattern includes instructions for helical knitting. For an in-depth look at this technique, or if you are new to helical knitting, definitely check out the linked tutorial.
