INSPIRATION
Inspired by Héloïse of Argenteuil, a 12th-century French scholar, philosopher, and nun, Héloïse celebrates the life of a bold and free-minded woman centuries ahead of her time.

PATTERN NOTES
Héloïse is a semi-circular shawl with incredibly simple construction using the Pi-method popularized by Elizabeth Zimmerman. Worked top down, it relies on the natural elasticity of the knitted fabric and a very small number of increase rows for its shape, offering a free canvas to knit upon.

The design features a “family” of closely-related combinations of slipped stitches and yarn overs that grow in complexity as variations on a theme, layered between plain stockinette sections that show off the beauty of the yarn. Each new motif builds on the simpler versions from the previous section, concluding with a bold flourish in an elegant lace border.

Exploring an array of expressions possible in closely related stitches and a small lace section, Héloïse is an enriching skill-builder and a gentle introduction to textured stitches, colourwork, and lace knitting. The rhythmic pace and the striking visual and textural variation will keep the advanced knitter peacefully engaged throughout. No matter what level, Héloïse will prove to be an entertaining and satisfying knit for any knitter.
