Any yarn with a yardage of 350-380 m / 380-415 yds per 100g, e.g. ONION knit No. 3 Organic Wool + Nettles, Rauma Finullgarn, Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, Snældan Nappad tógv 2-ply, Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles, Filcolana Pernilla, etc.

Instructions for the lace border are both charted and written.

The lace border is worked first and stitches are then picked up for the following sections as you go along.

In my opinion it works better in a yarn without too much drape, but I guess that is a matter of taste :)
