With a focus on folded hems for the Special Topics in Finishing in this issue, I wanted to design a cardigan that took into account as many folded hems as possible. Bottom-up, top-down, in pieces—you name it. Knit this sweater and you’ll know your hems!

One of the cool things about hems is that you can add some hidden personality by using a contrast color for the interior facing. In this case, I used a slightly smaller yarn in a barber-pole gradient, which means every hem is a bit of a surprise.
