I started making up chicken and pig crocheted ornaments for a kitchen table-top tree. This pattern is a result of that, a hen ornament that is fun to make and neat to display. I can’t keep enough of these for my decorating, as they make such great little gifts! They fit nicely into a greeting card. This crochet pattern is my original, copyrighted design. Using this pattern and size 3 thread, you can make a delicate, detailed ornament that measures 3” wide and 3-1/2” tall. You may omit the hanging loop and glue a magnet on the back to make a beautiful fridge magnet. Instead of using size 3 thread, (such as Aunt Lydia’s Fashion 3), you may use two strands of size 10 cotton thread held together. Or, using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton yarn (#4 yarn weight), you can make a larger ornament that will be a show stopper (4-3/4” wide and 5-1/2” tall). The hen has a double, ruffled tail. You will want to make dozens of these!
