Hepatica Shawl Trio
When Sarah from Dyeing Wishes Yarn Co invited me to design a shawl for A Woolen Affair 2025, I couldn’t say no! I always love working with Sarah and her beautiful colorways. The shawlette sample was made with her AWA 2025 exclusive sock set, Party at the Brickyards!
Pattern Inspiration:
This pattern was inspired by the beautiful floral logo for the fiber event A Woolen Affair and by the beautiful flowers that grow in the Hudson Valley of NY. When I was researching names for this design, the Round Lobed Hepatica (Hepatica americana) really stuck out to me as having a very similar shape to the lace stitch I had chosen.
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Yarn: Fingering/sock weight (weight 1). Approximately 200 (bandana)/460 (shawlette)/900 (shawl) total yards. I used Dyeing Wishes Yarn Co Shocking
SW/N Sock (80% SWM/20% Nylon, 399 yds/100 g) for my samples.
Hook: 3.75 mm, or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size - approximate dimensions after aggressive blocking: Bandana: 34” wide, 11” deep; Shawlette: 58” wide, 19” deep; Shawl: 67” wide, 29” deep
Gauge: As this is a non-fitted item, gauge is not critical. However, changes in gauge will impact yardage used. Before blocking - approximately 7” long by 5” deep after row 16, measuring along non-increasing edge and along row 16. After blocking - 1.5 flower motifs = 4” wide and 4” tall.
