In Greek mythology Hera had a servant named Argus who had a hundred eyes1 that she charged with keeping a watch over Io so that Zeus wouldn’t do, well, other things with Io. Zeus was very interested in doing said other things with Io and thus made his own minion/son (Hermes) kill Argus.

Hera in commemoration of her faithful servant placed the eyes of the Argus on the tails of peacocks. Moral of the story: When life kills your faithful giant servant, make fashion.

Ring lace, aka bird’s eye lace reminds adorns this top-down, raglan sleeved top. If belled sleeves aren’t your taste, the pattern does include instructions to finish with non-belled half-sleeves. Although the lace may seem scary, it is knit in the round with no pesky purled rows.

The lace is in both charted and written forms.

  1. Body parts and vowels being more common back then.
