The Herringbone Beanie is designed to be a unisex hat for everyone from the “gal in yoga pants” to the “city hipster” to the “dapper gentleman” and it is the essence of the phrase: less is more. This pattern is knitted in the round with a single strand of heavy worsted/light bulky weight yarn.

The finished hat should fit snug around the brim, yet have a bit of slouch to the back. Your yarn fiber/stiffness will determine how the slouch falls – for a “slouchier slouch”, choose a soft, flexible yarn. Two size options are noted in the pattern for simplicity – Medium/Ladies and Large/Mens. Two decrease options are also noted in the pattern for your level of comfort and style.

Visual instructions are provided for both stitches within the herringbone pattern, transferring your stitch marker at the end of the each row, and twisting stitches to begin a new row. See “visual tips” on last two pages of pattern for more information.

This pattern is not 100% seamless, however the visual tips will assist in reducing the appearance of a seam. This pattern assumes that the user is familiar with intermediate-level techniques associated with knitting in the round, decreasing and finishing.

Happy kniting!
