The Herringbone Halter is the perfect sleeveless, backless addition to your summer wardrobe. It’s light and formfitting, with a lace bottom edge that adds a bit of extra elegance. Consider pairing it with a cardigan for a smooth transition into fall fashion!

This project requires only 1 skein of yarn for small and medium sizes (with a little extra for the large). What makes this pattern unique from other halters is that it’s worked sideways as opposed to from top to bottom. The fabric that is created has a lovely drape, as vertical herringbone lines run down the halter. If you’re not already a herringbone stitch lover like myself, you will soon be converted.

The pattern includes a photo tutorial of how to create increases and decreases in horizontal herringbone stitch. However the pattern does not teach you how to knit the stitch itself, so please familiarize yourself with the technique prior to starting the project. Other techniques required to complete this project include yarn-overs, k2tog, catch stitch (sewing), chain and slip stitches (with crochet hook).
