February 28, 2016 -- Revised PDF available for download. Changes are:

  • Inclusion of a chart for lace stitch
  • Clarification of instructions for altering the stitch count.

The lace pattern is easily memorized and an enjoyable, rhythmic knit.

Worked on 5.5 mm / US 9 needles in a yarn combination which is the equivalent of a light worsted weight, the pattern will make a large, drape-y wrap measuring 20 x 70 inches / 51 x 178 cm. Gauge is not critical. Any weight of yarn could be used, given appropriate yardage and a suitable needle size, however two fine strands held together or an “airy” yarn such as a wool-mohair mix or a chainette-construction yarn will accentuate the lightness of the fabric created by the all-over lace pattern. The size may be adapted by adding or subtracting repeats of the lace pattern.

The original wrap was made with 2 strands of Holst Garn Supersoft 100% Uld held together, thus requiring double the yardage given above.

The lace pattern is given as row-by-row written instructions as well as in chart form.
