Hibiscus
Hibiscus is a charted design element which can be used in conjuction with pattern instructions from Bohus Stickning på nytt The Revival. Charts have been published for several garments. A circular yoke sweater, a shorted ‘nya’ yoke sweater, and a hat. It was designed by Annika Malmstrom-Bladini for Bohus Stickning some time in 1959. A photo of an original pattern card was published by the Bohuslan Museum in their digital collection in late 2024, however this card did not include the name of the design. Additional charts were subsequently published in 2025. It is referenced in Bohus Stickning på nytt The Revival on p. 145 as design 821 from 1959. The pattern reference in the book and on the pattern card describe the pattern as being made from the Bohus Stickning angora merino yarn. A photo of an original pattern card is shown here.
8 colours are used in the design. 37, 175, 39, 220, 83, 85, 208 and 195. All of these colours have been replicated by AngoraGarnet (or Solsilke) and may be available to purchase from them, although no single kit is available as of 2026.
Links to the Bohuslan Museum’s collection for the design are included in this page. Please be mindful of the terms of the Museum’s licence and be considerate when using items from their collection.
