The Hickory Horned Devil is the super impressive larva of the Royal Moth. This design has been my 2nd most requested caterpillar after the Monarch. It is an epic project, though surprisingly simple for anyone already familiar with in-line color changes (aka tapestry crochet). If you are not, there are some very simple exercises within the pattern to familiarize yourself quickly.

This pattern is in English and uses American crochet terms. It includes fully written instructions for all parts as well as color graphs for the main segments of the caterpillar. It makes a caterpillar that is somewhere around 4 ft long, depending on your tension and materials. There are 2 options for the prolegs. With simple color changes you can also make the early 5th instar version (the brown one pictured last).
