Materials
Difficulty: 3 out of 5 stars. This cable pattern has more advanced cables and cable decreases. Some experience with cable stitches and cable decreases is definitely helpful. If you are not very experienced with cables but would like to try the pattern, I am more than willing to help.
Yarn Used for Sample:
madelinetosh tosh dk, 225 yds- colorway: Moonstone
Yarn Required for Pattern:
Approximately 170 yards of a DK weight yarn.
Needles:
US 5/3.75 mm 16 inch circular needle
US 6/4.0 mm 16 inch circular needle
US 6/4.0 mm DPNs or magic loop for crown decreases
(or as required to meet gauge)
Gauge:
NOTE: When knitting cables, it is very important to swatch your cable pattern so that you have an idea of your gauge. Gauge is extremely important with getting correct size with cable stitch patterns because cables pull the fabric in significantly but blocking helps to lengthen/widen the fabric back out. I have given my gauge for stockinette, unblocked cable pattern in the round, and blocked cable pattern in the round.
Please make sure that you have gauge or your hat could be too small.
24 sts and 32 rows=4 inches on US 6 in stockinette stitch in the round
3 inches=1 full repeat of cable pattern, unstretched and unblocked in the round
28 sts and 37 rows=4 inches in unblocked cable pattern in the round
32 sts and 37 rows=4 inches in blocked cable pattern in the round
4 inches=1 full repeat of cable pattern, blocked, in the round

k2tog-knit 2 sts together as one st.
ssk-slip 1 st as if to knit, slip 1 st as if to purl and knit the 2 sts together through the back loop.
p2tog-purl two sts together as one st.
sl2-k1-psso-slip 2, knit 1, pass the slipped sts over-slip 2 sts knitwise, knit the next st, pass the 2 slipped sts over the knit st.
C4B-cable 4 back-slip 2 stitches to CN and hold in back, k2 from LH needle, k2 from CN.
C4F-cable 4 front-slip 2 stitches to CN and hold in front, k2 from LH needle, k2 from CN.
C3FP-cable 3 front purl-slip 2 sts to CN and hold in front, p1 from LH needle, k2 from CN.
