For many people, 2016 was not a favorite year.

If you need a little crafting therapy, here’s a pattern to help. Work this crochet ornament in worsted-weight acrylic yarn. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to express your feelings about 2016.

This pattern uses small amounts of worsted-weight acrylic yarn in olive green, black, mustard, and multicolored yarn.

Techniques you already know:

  • foundation crochet
  • American crochet terminology
  • working into back of loop
  • chain stitch/tambour stitch
  • Russian join
  • basic needle-and-yarn sewing

Why is this pattern free? I don’t usually write crochet patterns. Also, since I made this up as I went, I worked the fire back and forth in left-handed crochet. I am sure the more competent crocheters out there can do better.

Available in 2 file formats. Which should you choose?
E-book file is half-sheet formatted but with all the pages in normal order and the blank inside covers and blank pages deleted.
If you have a smaller tablet or you read off your smart phone, you shouldn’t have to zoom as much. You can also print this size if you print on 5.5 x 8 inch paper — i.e. half-sheet.

The e-booklet is half-sheet formatted with all the pages in normal order and extra blank pages. If you use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, you can
print 2 pages to a side
print on both sides of each leaf
print on margin-less 8.5 x 11 inch paper
print booklet
The center will be a piece of paper that has pages 4 & 5 face up, and pages 6 (blank) & 3 face down.
The middle piece of paper will have page 2 and a blank page 7 face up, and page 8 and page 1 face down.
Cover (possibly heavier paper) on bottom.
(If you’ve taken a class with the designer after June 2012, this is the same format as her class handouts.)
