“Emma, my dear,” Mr. Woodhouse implored. “I beg you not to go out today; I fear it might turn blustery and you would likely catch a chill.”

“But my dear Papa,” Emma said, “I promised Miss Bates that I would walk to Highbury and bring her a basket of apples and a hind of pork, not to mention a bucket of freshly made gruel, which you well know she has been pining after for a fortnight!”

“Well my dearest, I am sure it is very good of you to remember poor Miss Bates, and if you insist on risking your good health then I implore you to at least dress warmly!”

“Don’t worry Papa,” Emma said, smiling fondly, “I shall be perfectly cozy wearing the lovely wristlets Mrs. Weston made me for Christmas.”
