My Grandmother was born Donna Frances Hightower in 1918. She was a woman of many talents, much wisdom, and lots of love. These socks are named for her. The pattern reminds me of the many long walks we would take, up and around the small hill by her house, on a quiet country road surrounded by tall pines and farmland.

Yarn - Approximately 400 yards/365 meters fingering-weight yarn. Shown in Hazel Knits Artisan Sock (90% superwash merino wool, 10% nylon; 400 yards/365 meters per 4.2 ounce/120 gram skein), colorways Frost (light blue) and Lichen (yellow).

Gauge - 32 stitches = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.

Needles - US #1/2.25 mm (or size to get gauge) for working a small item in the round (either two circulars, or one long circular for magic loop, or double points).

Notions - Tapestry needle, stitch markers.

Skill level - Advanced beginner (grafting, knitting in the round, lace pattern).

Size/Finished measurements - One size fits most women’s feet (this sock is nice and stretchy). Length is easily customizable. Circumference at cuff, unstretched: 6.5”/16.5 cm. Circumference at mid-foot, unstretched: 7.5”/19 cm. Measured after blocking.
