HIJIKI
Hijiki is an edible seaweed. The Hijiki mittens are a pair of fun mittens knit sideways. It starts from the outside edge of the hand, works its way to the inner edge where you add a thumb ­gusset and thumb. followed by the second side of the hand. The provisional cast-on edge and the thumb are grafted using ­kitchener stitch for garter stitch.

SIZE
One size, ladies size M/L.
The sample mittens are ­approximately 20 cm ­circumference x 25.5 cm from cuff to finger tip. For smaller mittens, go down a needle size.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS

  • 3 mm/US2.5/UK11 circular needles 60 cm/24”.
  • Crochet hook, about 4-5 mm/US6-8/UK G-H.
  • 2 pieces of scrap thread, for provisional cast-on.
  • Stitch holder/stitch wire.
  • Darning needle.

GAUGE
Ca 22 sts x 44 rows = 10 x 10 cm in ­garter stitch on 3 mm needles. Check gauge, adjust needle size ­accordingly.
