This round, chubby cat is a quite versatile pattern. It can be knitted in many sizes, and with a great variety of yarn, in one solid color, striped or with color patches.

All different parts can be knitted flat and seamed together, or in the round with circular needles (using magic loop), or double-pointed needles.

Size :

For reference, the smallest cat on the picture is knitted on 2mm / US0 needles with fingering weight yarn (Drops Fabel). It is 6cm / 2.4 inches high (without the tail) and 9cm / 3,5 inches long.

The biggest one is knitted on 6mm / US10 needles with bulky yarn (Hobbii Peacock). It is 20cm / 7.9 inches high and 24cm / 9.4 inches long.

Yarn :

You can use any type of yarn, depending on the size and look you want to achieve. Fuzzy yarns, faux-fur, and adding mohair to regular yarn will give nice results but are a bit more difficult to work with.

Yardage needed :

  • For the cat, if you use :

→ bulky yarn : about 230g (9.1 oz) / 150m (164 yards) (will weight less if it isn’t faux-fur yarn)

→ worsted weight yarn : less than 100g (3.5 oz) / 130m (142 yards)

→ fingering weight yarn : less than 25g (0.88 oz) / 100m (109 yards)

  • For the bag : a small amount of yarn of the same weight you will be using for the cat, in one or two colors (if you want the straps and the drawstring of the bag to be a different color).

Gauge :

Gauge does not matter for this pattern, the only important thing is to use the same yarn weight and same needles for the cat and the bag in order to maintain proportion.

Notions :

  • safety eyes or black yarn to embroider the eyes
  • safety nose or pink yarn to embroider the nose
  • toy stuffing
  • pins
  • tapestry needle

Optional :

  • wire to put inside the tail
  • beads to add to the bag
  • nylon thread to make whiskers
  • pink felt and felting needle to make paw pads
