The pattern was inspired by the fabulous views of Bennachie we saw from our home (see last picture) and named for a question the children asked, “are they hills or mountains?”
I hope you enjoy knitting the pattern as much as we enjoyed looking at what inspired it. If you ever get the chance the area is well worth a visit.

The pattern is easy and quick to knit. It is knit in the round from the bottom up and written in a line by line format, no chart.

Skills needed are casting on, knitting in the round, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, knitting two stitches together (hat only) and binding off.

Finished Sizes.
Hat - Fits a head up to 58cm by 21cm high
Cowl - 30cm high by 55cm around

Materials Required.
50cm/20” 7 and 8mm circular needles and 8mm DPNs for the hat, or sizes needed to obtain gauge.
65m / 71yds of super chunky wool for the hat and 125m / 135yds for the cowl.
Stitch marker to mark the beginning / end of the round (optional).
Darning needle to sew in ends.

Now for the the boring bit.
