These socks were inspired by “himmeli” the beautiful and intriguing Finnish Christmas decoration. It’s a mobile made out of straw and bound together to create small octahedrons that are then bound together for bigger motifs.
“Himmel” is the Swedes word for sky and the himmeli was hung from the highest point of the room, where it could slowly swirl in the winds that blew through whatever crack they could find.
For the modern person himmeli is just a Christmas decoration, but back in the days it was a good luck charm of crops. The bigger the himmeli was, the bigger the crops were and himmeli hung in the ceiling from Christmas to Midsummer.

The socks are worked toe-up with gusset and heel flap and decorated with a big cable on the foot that runs through the whole sock and a smaller cable on the outer back of the leg.
