This pattern was inspired by a pattern from 1927 for a knit tunic/dress. The body of the dress was plain black, but the wide flaring sleeves had bold color work patterns in bright contrasting colors. My version is a hip length sweater instead of a knee length dress, and worked in a much more reasonable gauge. The wide sleeves and bold patterns are retained, and added texture in the body and colored cables on the raglan seams and collar give another bit of flair. The body and sleeves are each begun in the round using a provisional cast on for a nice smooth hem, and then worked flat as the colors are introduced. The collar is worked after the sleeve and raglan seams are sewn.

Size: 40” around the bottom edge, 36” around at the waist, 38” around at the bust, and 22” from neck to bottom hem at the back. 17” across at the shoulders, sleeves are 22” long, and 20” around at the hem. All measurements are given unstretched.

Materials: ~1350yds or 18oz of worsted weight yarn (model uses Vanna’s Style: 3 skeins of Black, 1 skein of Purple, and 1 skein of Blue). U.S. Size 5 circular needle, and U.S. Size 4 circular needle, stitch markers and cable needle.

Gauge: 16 sts by 28 rows = 4” x 4” in Pattern Stitch
20 sts by 26 rows = 4” x 4” in Stockinette Stitch

Techniques Used:
Pattern Stitch
Stockinette Stitch
Cables – following a cable chart
Intarsia - following a color chart
Decreasing and Increasing stitches
Knitting in the round
Short Rows
Knitting two rows together
Three needle bind off

So far I have only worked out one size for this pattern. The textured stitch of the body is very stretchy and will accommodate a range of sizes. The math to change the body size is relatively straight forward, but the color charts make the sleeves more difficult to scale. Adding more sizes to this and other patterns is something I hope to accomplish soon, but for now if you have sizing questions, please contact me and I will do my best to help.
