Hladina shorts is a two-color design with two variations of stripes. The word ‘hladina’ means surface of a liquid in Czech, in this case the surface of a body of water. One version is worked with basic jogless stripes, reminiscent of the calm surface of a lake, the other version features a stranded colorwork wave pattern. The shorts with suspenders are inspired by vintage men’s swimming suits and make for a great summer outfit.

GAUGE
28 sts/10 cm (4 in) in stockinette stitch on 3.0 mm (US 2.5) needles worked in the round.
32 sts/10 cm (4 in) in stranded colorwork on 3.0 mm (US 2.5) needles worked in the round.

NEEDLES
2.5 mm (US 1.5) - a set (5) of double pointed needles.
2.5 mm (US 1.5) - circular needles: short interchangeable tips and cable suitable for small circumferences or circular needles with a longer cable suitable for the magic loop technique.
3.0 mm (US 2.5) - circular needles: short interchangeable tips and cable suitable for small circumferences or circular needles with a longer cable suitable for the magic loop technique.

YARN (for one pair of shorts)
Knitting for Olive Cotton merino (70% cotton, 30% merino; 250 m (273 yd)/50 g): 1 ball of main color, 1 ball of contrast color. 1 ball of contrast color is enough to make both versions of shorts with 1 ball of main color for each version.
There are many wonderful summer yarns that would be suitable for this design.
