Sizing
Length of head (back of head to nose): 25 cm (10 in) approximately
Height (from base of neck to top of ears): 32 cm (12 ½ in) approximately
Total height depends on length of stick. Following instructions in pattern will produce a hobby horse approximately 110 cm high (44 in) from tip of ears to bottom of stick.

Yarn requirement
Rowan Purelife British Sheep Breeds Chunky (110m/120yds per 100g ball):

  • 2 x (MC) in Shade 954 ― Steel Grey Suffolk
  • 1 x (CC1) in Shade 950 ― Bluefaced Leicester (approximately 10 g used in sample)
  • 1 x (CC2) in Shade 955 ― Shetland Moorit (approx 40-50 g used in sample)

+Oddments of Black yarn (to embroider eyes)

Needles and Notions

  • 5 mm (US 8) needles ― Or size required to achieve gauge.
  • Toy stuffing, stitch markers, darning needle, sharp tapestry needle, crochet hook (5 mm / US 8 / H)
  • Old broomstick handle ― or dowel: 120 cm x 25-30 mm diam (48 in x 1 - 1¼ in diam)
  • Wooden or Plastic Toy Wheels (x 2) + matching axis / bolt and nuts (long enough to go through both wheels + washers + dowel), 2 washers.
  • Saw, drill, sanding paper, wood screws and screwdriver.
  • Old sock or piece of fabric, lengths of string (approx 5 m / 5 yds)

Gauge
16 sts and 21 rows / 10cm (4 in) measured over stockinette in the round (before stuffing).
