Here’s a pattern for an adorable holiday snowman magnet that, with a little modification, can also be used to make a coaster. This is fun to crochet and works up pretty quickly. You will want to make at least one for your own holiday décor and several to give as gifts. You can personalize the scarf with school or team colors for the college student or sports fan on your gift list.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
F Crochet Hook for Magnet (see note on gauge); G Crochet Hook for Coaster (see note on gauge)
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn in White, about 10 yards per magnet or coaster; small amount of Black for the hat and face; small amounts of Red and Green (or your choice of colors) for the scarf; a tiny amount of Orange for the nose; a tiny amount of Light Blue contrast for the hat band.
Purchased holly berry mini embellishments - 4 - (available in craft stores) for the hat (see photo of Magnet), or substitute a small amount of red ribbon (shown on the Coasters) or French Knots in Red (not shown)
Flexible magnet backing (Magnet)
Craft Glue (Magnet)
Stitch markers (optional)
Tapestry Needle to weave in ends and embroider face.

SKILL LEVEL: EASY – some experience helpful - the Hat is a little tricky but not too difficult.

GAUGE: Gauge is not important for this project. When you finish the first round of HDC for the Magnet, the piece should measure about 1” across the middle; for the Coaster, a little less than 1.25”. The finished size of the Magnet is about 3.5” diameter, not including the hat or scarf, and about 4.75” from the bottom of the circle to the top of the hat. The finished size of the Coaster is about 4” diameter not including the hat or scarf, and about 5” from the bottom of the circle to the top of the hat. The scarf adds about another 2.75” to each. Your gauge may differ and you may have to adjust your hook size depending on how you crochet and whether you use a different type of yarn.
