I recently stumbled across an old magazine from the 1960’s which had an article with ‘Winter Holiday / Ski’ type knitwear patterns in it.

A few days later, whilst browsing through my copy of ‘The Knitter’s Stitch Collection’ (by Lesley Stanfield and Melody Griffiths), I found a textured stitch design called ‘Brocade Net’.

This immediately set me thinking…. and inspiration struck…. the stitch pattern design could be translated into a colour work design pattern, instead of a textured knit pattern.

The design is written to allow you to make a sock to fit a foot circumference of either 8” or 8 1/2” and the foot length is adjustable.

The yarn used is double knitting / sport weight yarn - gauge / tension is either 6 1/2 stitches or 6 stitches to the inch, measured over stocking stitch, depending on which size needle you choose. You will need 100g of main colour and 100g of contrast colour yarn to make a pair of socks.

The leg pattern is written as a chart, and knowledge of colour work and stranded knitting is required. For beginners just starting to progress with colour work - like myself - it is an ideal project.

I very much hope you enjoy my latest design - please don’t forget to post photos of your finished projects - I’d love to see them….

Happy knitting everyone :)
