This design was honored as one of five finalists in Nicky Epstein’s Knitting in Bloom Contest in association with Vogue Knitting Live, Los Angeles show held in September 2011. This is a wonderful kit for the intermediate plus knitter that enjoys a challenge and is looking for a unique project. This very life-like 3-dimensional design is lovely on a hat or can be carefully worn as a pin.

I use a combination of knitting and jewelry techniques to create this design which is now available as a kit. We provide the yarn, pattern for knitting the bee body and flower petals, completed flower center, beaded wings and other materials. You will knit the flower petals, bee body and 2 small pieces to cover the plastic backing (which holds the petals in place). The support for this design is provided by yarn-covered wire supports, which are provided. After completing the knitting, you will attach the flower petals to the wire supports by sewing them in place. The petals are then attached to a covered form so that the pin can be attached. After completing the flower, you can shape the petals by gently bending the wires. The bee is slightly more complicated so make the flower first.

Finished flower is approximately 5 inches in diameter; bee is about 2 inches long.
You will need to provide size 2 needles and a sewing needle. Level of difficulty: intermediate plus. Basic sewing skills required.
