“These mittens are knitted using six shades of 2ply Jumper Weight 100% Shetland wool from Jamieson & Smith, in a harmonious combination of greens and blues,” explains Outi Kater. “The thumb opening is worked by casting off stitches below the thumb opening and casting them on above it, which allows you to try the mitten on for size and eliminates any holes from forming on the sides of the thumb. If preferred, an afterthought thumb can be worked instead. The pattern gives instructions for two sizes.”
