My main knitting-related weakness has traditionally been those darned left mittens. It didn’t matter how many mittens I knitted – all of them turned into right-handed bastards. When I finally got fed up with the right-handed ones, I decided to make my own mittens that would be identical – that way I could knit fearlessly without worrying about whether the thumb showed up in the correct spot or not.

I’m from the wonderful area of Skagafjordur, Iceland. Drangey is an island close to where I grew up and I’ve always been captivated by its beautiful shape on the horizon. Full of inspiration from “Skagfjordian Rose-mittens” and with a hint of yearning I drew a pattern of Drangey island to stitch into my mittens. Now I can pop home with just a quick glance at my hands. The mittens can be embroidered with their owner’s initials for a personal touch.
