I first knit this sweater in February, just for myself and didn’t intend to write a pattern. It was a total comfort knit - easy and quick to make, and perfectly cosy to wear with lounge pants. And then - as our collective destiny would have it - this is exactly what so many of us need right now while dealing with the worldwide pandemic.

So, I hope you will find comfort in this pattern too. Dig into your stash to find some aran to bulky weight yarn, or experiment with holding a few thinner strands together. Or use it as an opportunity to buy something special for yourself and support your favourite yarn producers and shops. I knit mine in Arranmore which is discontinued, but some shops still carry it. I’ve listed just a few alternatives above.

Homebody is knit from the top down, in one piece beginning at the neck. The top of the yoke is worked back and forth while neck shaping takes place. Then the remainder of the yoke, body and sleeves are worked in the round. Stitches for the neck trim are picked up and knit at the end.

It is intended to be worn with 3-7 inches (7-17 cm) of positive ease around the chest. The length of the body from the underarm is approximately 13.5 inches (34 cm). If you wish to lengthen it, you may need more yarn than suggested below. #sizeinclusive

The pattern includes a supplement for sizes L - 6X with optional instructions for making the front of the sweater larger than the back, in case that provides a better fit for you.

You will need the following amount in each strand of yarn:

XXS - 590 m / 640 yds
XS - 650 m / 705 yds
S - 720 m / 780 yds
M1 - 790 m / 855 yds
M2 - 875 m / 950 yds
L - 930 m / 1010 yds
XL - 1050 m / 1140 yds
2X - 1150 m / 1245 yds
3X - 1230 m / 1335 yds
4X - 1330 m / 1440 yds
5X - 1440 m / 1560 yds
6X - 1550 m / 1680 yds
