I love this Tunisian crochet pattern! The changes in stitch and texture are really cool. I made two versions. One with the solid color yarn for the foundation row and the forward passes, and one with the variegated yarn for the foundation row and the forward passes. I can’t decide which one I like best.

You need equal yardage of 2 colors of sport weight yarn. This pattern is written for 4 sizes, infant/child/adult/adult XL. They would use total yarn amounts 160/180/200/220 yds (i.e. for the adult you would need 100 yds of each color). I suggest a variegated or self striping yarn, like Spincycle Dyed in the Wool, and a contrasting solid color. For some extra luxury, I used Lux Adorna Knits Cashmere Sport.

For the newer version (green and orange), I used 1 skein of Freia Handpaints Ombré Sport split into two equal cakes.

Have some locking stitch markers on hand. It will make keeping track of rows easier.
This pattern uses a stitch repeat that changes depending on which size you make, and is divisible by 14/16/18/20 minus 1, respectively.
It uses a chainless foundation row, and is worked in spiral, not in discreet rows.
If you like a slouchier hat, feel free to add more rows before starting the decrease rows.
